El Cerrito Kitchen
We cannot say enough good things about Jose Gonzales and JRMK Construction.
Our remodel consisted of a full demolition and remodel of the kitchen, dining room, office and laundry area, including new electrical installation throughout, new cabinets and flooring, new plumbing, insulation, dry wall, and the removal of a weight bearing wall.
From the first contact we had with Jose, it was obvious that he was a good listener and very flexible. We had met with a few contractors and were starting to be a little intimidated by the details of the permit process, but Jose reassured us that our type of project was something he has done many times before.
Luckily, ours was a project that could be done during the slower winter months, so within a few days we had a price, a contract and a start date.
However, it wasn’t until the first couple of days of demolition that we realized just how smart and flexible Jose and the crew of JRMK Construction really were. The first day of demolition, when Jose realized we were setting up a small kitchen in our living room, he had his crew build a mini-kitchen from our old cabinets and formica countertops, and within a couple of days he had installed an outdoor sink with hot water!
Throughout the project we had a similar positive experience. Jose and his crew are extremely detail-oriented craftsmen, and he gave us advice on construction issues as they arose, such as suggesting new placement of our heating ducts and building a storage platform in our attic where new insulation was being installed.
The experience was so positive that we decided as part of our project to replace our front and back doors and to upgrade the trim and moldings in our living room. Again, Jose was ready with a reasonable price and advice on how to move forward on these additional jobs, even recommending his supply vendors to help with the details.
When we told Jose we were writing a review, he said to be sure to include any drawbacks of working with him. The truth is, it was hard to think of anything. Of course, like all contractors, sometimes his crew would be needed somewhere else for an extra half day, but their flexibility more than compensated for any short delays. Our project was scheduled to take ten weeks and was finished in nine!
We’re hoping to have Jose and his crew do future upgrades to our house!
